The best place for a sports car driver to meet people is during the Grand-am Daytona Test Days held every year in January in preparation for the biggest American sports car race, The Rolex 24. Knowing that, I went down to Daytona test days to take advantage of this great opportunity to network and meet as many racing contact as possible.
With the goal in mind to get into a car for at least one session and meet new racing contacts, I was looking forward to getting back to Daytona after three years of missing test days. Very early in the weekend I meet up with an old racing buddy in the SCCA ITS class Allen Milarcik who is now owner of Pirate Motorsports running a Mazda RX-8 in the Continental Tire ST class.
After I meet many racing contacts and walked more than twenty miles each of the first two days, during which I worked with Pirate Motorsports to help them on the track, Team Owner of Pirate Motorsports decided he would like me to get in his ST Mazda RX-8. I was very thrilled to get the opportunity to get on the track at Daytona and hit the high banks. I enjoyed every second of the time I got on the track and was excited to find out at the end of the session that I ran the second fastest time in the ST class.
Going down to test days has opened up many new opportunities for me in the racing world to pursue throughout this year and turn into something more. I want to thank Pirate Motorsports for giving me the opportunity to get on the track and show everyone what I can do on a professional level.
Stay tuned throughout the year for contant updates on new developments for the 2010 season.
