Posted (03/12/2007) - Huffmaster Racing traveled to the Lone Star State for some early spring racing. The team competed in the March 10th and 11th "No Name" Double National at Texas World Speedway.

Drivers for Huffmaster Racing at the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Double National were the father and son duo of Ray & Rob Huffmaster. The vehicles were two Mazda RX-8 race cars. The #65 Mazda RX-8 was the team's former Grand-Am Cup Street Tuner racer. With a few minor revisions, the #65 racer has been entered in the new SCCA National Class - D Prepared. The #31 Mazda RX-8 is a brand new race car that Huffmaster Racing has prepared for the ever competitive T3 class.

For Saturday's race, Rob Huffmaster drove the #31 T3 Mazda. Despite new car teething problems, Rob persevered and finished with a very credible 2nd place out of 6 in class and 11th overall.

"Bringing out a new car on a race weekend can always be difficult. Huffmaster Racing learned a lot about our T3 Mazda, and hope to put those lessons learned into further developing the #31 racer when we get back to the shop." - stated Rob Huffmaster

Ray Huffmaster was at the wheel of the D Prepared racer in Saturday's race. Setting the class track record in qualifying was just the start of a fine day. In the race, Ray finished 1st in class, and an amazing 5th out of 28 in the event.

"I feel very comfortable in this Mazda, having driven it in Grand-Am Cup last season. Texas World Speedway is an interesting track, with the banking, high speed sweepers and some really tight infield bends. It was really fun in the RX-8, racing and beating cars in higher classes." - stated Ray Huffmaster

On Sunday, Huffmaster Racing made the key decision to withdraw the T3 Mazda, and put the focus upon the D Prepared #65. This decision was in conjunction to move young Rob Huffmaster into the #31 driver's seat.

Rob Huffmaster did not disappoint in his debut in D Prepared. Breaking his Dad's one day old track record was just the start. In the race, Rob drove to 1st in class and 2nd overall out of 28 cars.

"Rob did a fantastic job today. We had all the confidence that he would deliver a professional level effort, and he didn't disappoint the team. Switching back from the T3 Mazda can be a bit disconcerting, but Rob didn't miss a beat all day" - stated Ray Huffmaster

"I really enjoyed the race today. It was fun mixing it up on the track. Two wins in two days is a great accomplishment for Huffmaster Racing, and I am just proud to be a part of this campaign." - stated Rob Huffmaster

Then next event for Huffmaster Racing will be the May 12th & 13th National at Grattan Raceway Park. Grattan, based out of Belding, Michigan, will be a "Home Track" race for Huffmaster Racing. The Event will be in the Huffmasters' Great Lakes Region, and will count as one of their required in division Nationals.

The driver line up will be Ray Huffmaster in the #65 D Prepared Mazda RX-8. Behind the wheel of the #31 T3 Mazda RX-8 will be Rob Huffmaster . At Grattan, Rob Huffmaster holds the track record in T3.

The Goal for the season is to qualify both Huffmaster Drivers for the National Runnoffs; Ray in D Prepared and Rob for T3. For the 2nd straight year, the 2007 SCCA National Runnoffs will be held at Topeka, Kansas at Heartland Park on October 8-14.
